The Rating
Find a word to help the other player guess a secret rating between 1 and 10.
One player gets a secret rating between 1 and 10 on a given theme, and has to get the other to guess it with a single word. “Monday mornings” rated 2: which word gets that across without saying the number — and without the secret rating turning into a public verdict on someone's character?

How to play The Rating
- Pick the number of rounds, from 1 to 10.
- Each round, one player secretly sees a rating between 1 and 10, and a theme they either type themselves or draw from 192.
- They give a single word to place that rating, without ever saying the number.
- The other player guesses the rating they think it is.
- The rating is revealed, and the roles swap for the next round.
Variants
- Lenient version: count it right within one point. The app only accepts the exact rating, so soften it out loud if rounds keep ending in an existential crisis.
- Talkative version: allow a short phrase instead of a single word, when the theme doesn't lend itself to one.
Frequently asked questions
- Can the clue be more than one word?
- The game expects a single word, that's the whole constraint. Nothing stops your table from allowing a short phrase, if the theme's being stubborn.
- How do we play on separate phones?
- Pick “With my group”: the rating stays hidden from the guesser and from spectators until the reveal.
- How many themes are there?
- 192 themes to draw at random, from the harmless to the divisive. You can also write your own if inspiration — or a grudge — strikes.
